Original era manufacture. Tall, fieldgray wool covered shako with a black leather, bound edge visor. At the front of the hat is a very nice gold wire embroidered 4th Artillery insignia, with a single strand of gold wire around the center of the hat and up the sides. Wide, black patent leather chinstrap secured with two brass artillery buttons.Brown leather sweatband, with an intact yellow silk lining, displaying a nice makers logo.There is some considerable moth damage on the top of the shako, and some lesser damage on the left side. Too bad really, as this is a fairly scarce piece of headgear from the time of the Great War. Happily, the front of the piece shows no damage, and the body of the shako is not crushed or broken.
