Original era manufacture. A recent purchase from a local collector who identifies the sword as by settsu no kami minamoto tadayuki, 2nd generation made between 1684-1688. Original polish blade measuring 24 inches in length, sharp cutting edge and good tip. The surface shows a mix of old age staining with a decent temper line. There are one or two very small bumps or nicks in the cutting edge. The hibaki is silver covered with a rain pattern design. Nice gold decorated iron ferrule and guard, with gilt dragon fly menuki. The handle has been expertly re-wrapped in black wool cloth and is bound tight. Original black lacquer covered wooden scabbard showing typical chipping and wear along its edges. Nice sword overall.
