Original era manufacture. A very clean example, with a diameter measuring 17 inches. The top of the helmet has a very nicely textured surface, with a chrysanthemum shaped central brass boss. At the front of the helmet is a family Mon, done in gold leaf. The underside of the helmet exhibits a red lacquer finish, a traditional Japanese process, worked for thousands of years. The cloth head pad, and padded chinstrap are missing.Overall, the helmet displays light wear, with a few small nicks in the edge of the helmet, and some shallow finish cracking on the underside of the helmet. The Edo period existed from approximately 1603-1868, with our example dating from the later years of that time.
