Original era manufacture. French inspired dark blue wool Dolman style private purchase tunic. Heavy yellow wool frogging and piping on its front and collar with yellow wool rank stripes on its cuffs. Green wool branch of service color on the collar. Full, black wool lining with a nice stitch pattern in each shoulder. The tunic shows some mothing and a section in need of repair on its left shoulder and back below the collar. However the dark color of the tunic does a good job of providing camouflage from the efforts of our little bug buddies. In spite of its flaws, the tunic represents well the elite branch of the IJA and the efforts of the Meiji Emperor to bring the Imperial Army into the new century. The century where newly emerging Japan duke'd it out with Czarist Russian and came out on top. From then on Japan was a power to be reckoned with.
