Original era manufacture. Standard pattern Army Officer dress sword for a company grade officer. It has an extraordinarily long blade, 36 inches!, with a chromed finish and false temper line on each side of the blade. The blade is clean, with a few shallow nicks in the cutting edge towards the point. There is a bend in the blade about four inches back from the point. Gilded brass ornate guard, back strap and pommel, with a silver family Mon placed just above the top of the guard. Carved horn grip, no cracks or chips, and only remnants of the wire binding remaining.Matching length steel scabbard with an old gold painted finish, which may be of the period, as it certainly shows the age. Denting towards drag on both sides of the scabbard.Because of the extreme curve of the sword, and the denting towards the scabbard tip, this sword may have once been the property of a cavalry officer, just a hunch.
