Original period manufacture. 40mm silver cross with white enameled rays and an array of red jewels around the polished central mirror. Original ribbon in its proper fold, with attaching hook on the reverse.Original lacquered wood case with a nicely aged purple silk lining. I believe this is an early example of the award, perhaps Meiji era, as the enameling has a dished appearance in the arms of the rays, and on the reverse, are four tiny rivets holding the jewels and mirror in place, instead of the later style silver screws.The rosette is also of a different pattern, being more of a flower, than the more commonly encountered, tube-like rosette.There is some chipping and darkening in the red enamel of the jewels, the ribbon has a nice vintage tone to it.
