Original era manufacture. Meiji era design type 19 (1886) sword with a 29 inch chromed steel blade. The blade is service weight and has been sharpened intelligently for field use. Very minor spotting and staining to its surface but no real issues to report. Brass basket guard and backstrap with floral decoration indicating a company grade officer. Black leather covered wooden grip with triple strand brass wire binding. The brown leather bumper is in place at the base of the blade and there is a kanji character stamped into the underside of the guard next to the quillon. The small nut which affixes itself to the blade tang at the top of the pommel is missing, this is the only real flaw to report regarding this fairly scarce sword. The blade is secure and does not rattle or feel loose. Dent free chromed steel scabbard with a pleasing steel patina. Single carrying ring suspension.
