Original era manufacture. Classic WWII Japanese Army helmet, which is a recent purchase from the son of the US Navy veteran who brought it home with him at the end of WWII.Original brown painted finish and star, with scattered staining and very light corrosion issues to the exterior.Near complete original leather liner, missing only adjusting string and the removable front pad. The underside of the front pad cover is issue marked Showa 17 (1942) with two characters written on the outside of the leather covering.Original, un-cut canvas chinstrap in sound condition, exhibiting staining from service use.The helmet was brought home by R.W.Lowry, who served aboard the USS Russell County (LST-1090) during WWII. In the summer of 1945, LST-1090 visited Saipan, Kwajalien and the Philippines, it was likely in one of these three places that Seaman Lowry obtained this helmet as a souvenir of his service.
