Japanese WWII Army Officer's Katana & Original Knot

Item #67907 : Original period manufacture. A clean example of the classic WWII Japanese Army Officer's Katana, frankly one of the nicest examples we have ever offered. The single edged blade measures 27 inches in length with a clear and distinct temper line visible on both sides of the blade. There are a few, and I mean only a very few, small spots of surface corrosion, mostly being seen on the cutting edge towards the point. The point itself is very sharp and not damaged. The surface of the blade is very clean and bright, with a polish which allows to see your reflection in it without trying very hard. Most of the original fire gilding remains on the Tsuba, intact and pliable leather collar and scabbard securing strap with snap closure. Tight brown cloth grip wrapping with typical gilded steel Menuki. The Kashira is of brass with a copper strap loop. The cap has a brown painted finish highlighted with gilt trim. Slipped through the copper loop is an original company grade officer sword knot. Late war black painted wooden scabbard with it's exterior covered by a very fine condition brown leather field cover. No issues with the stitching, no tears or splits in the surface with very minor scuffing visible. The blade fits the scabbard properly with no problems. About the only minor negatives would be that it would be a stretch, literally, to close the leather securing strap to the leather cover, and there is some minor fraying to the sword not strap wear it passes through the copper loop.
