Original era manufacture. This is an interesting example, certainly not the commonly encountered cotton covered sun helmet. Typical woven wicker body which is covered in a tan wool muslin cloth, and a brass Army star attached to the front of the helmet. A thinner grade muslin material covers the interior of the helmet, which has a black oilcloth sweatband, and a stitched white panel where the owners name could be written. The original cloth chinstrap is present and not broken. The edge of the helmet shows wear to the cloth covering, with the wicker weaving exposed in several places. The helmet is not crushed or broken, just showing some small scattered bug bites here and there.
