Original era manufacture. Army style civilian mask known as the Type 1, Model A in the US manual TM-E 30-480, Handbook on Japanese Military Forces, War Department 1944. On page 261 it states, ...although originally designed for civilian use, also is issued to Army personnel. Quite similar in design to the Type 95 & 99 Army models, main differnce lies with the design of the similar looking filter. Our example is basically unused, both black rubber filter stoppers are in place, the rubber facemask & hose are soft and pliable and the olive green canvas satchel is near new. The obvious problems with our mask are the damaged eyepieces, one lens has shattered and the other lens has delaminated so that in cannot be seen through. Perhaps a replacement set of lenses might be found from a lesser condition mask. Pity about the eyepieces because the rest is very clean.
