Original period manufacture. Early production bayonet by Kokura with the serial number placed on the top of the blade tang rather than on the pommel. Hooked guard, rounded bird head pommel, contoured wood grips and a bright finished blade. The blade shows spotting and staining from age and use. Mix of steel patina and blue finish to the guard and pommel. Working lock button, grips show typical marring from age and wear. Blue finished steel scabbard showing light denting down its length. This model is listed as LB-73 in Ray Labar's book "Bayonets of Japan" with a scarcity rating of 4, uncommon.
