Original era manufacture. This is an exceptional time-capsule, an assortment of Japanese documents and paper items captured on the Island of Guam during WWII and brought home by a Chief Yeoman's Matewho served aboard the USS Appalachian (AGC-1) during the war. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the grouping is it's completeness, there is an official inventory list of the contents, issued to the American sailor and signed by the Captain of the USS Appalachian in February of 1945. A penciled notation on the reverse of the inventory sheet reads, "before going to Guam, was in Manchuria", indicating an early attempt at translation of the contents. The items listed are as follows, 6 Japanese books, 2 photograph albums, 1 wooden box (this holds the contents), 1 Japanese handbag, 218 Japanese postcards, 9 letters, 1 Japanese Card, 1 envelope, 1 belt buckle. Many of the paper items display the US Intelligence stamp "Examined in the Field". Nothing has been removed by us, everything is included here which we recieved at the time of our purchase. Although I did not count each postcard, there is a great pile of letters. Some of the highlights are, the buckle is a Japanese NLFtropical trouser buckle cut from it's belt, an Army paybook, the photo albums include some great photos of Japanse soldiers including what I believe to be is their Marksmanship Guidon.
