Original era manufacture. A large size, wool bunting flag which measures about 8 x 11 feet. Made in several sections with a separate central Hinomaru. There is evidence of a considerable amount of hand finishing, with what appears to be a bullet hole in the body. There are scattered areas of staining, no doubt donated by the capturing GI's in 1945, in plain language they urinated on the flag, a common practice during the time to show the disdain (for both Nazi Germany & Imperial Japan) defeated enemies. The flag came into our possession from an old friend who, in the early 1960's, received as a gift from the hands of the American soldier who obtained the flag at the Imperial Japanese Navy Base at Yokosuka Japan in 1945.
