Original period manufacture. A late war example featuring a blue finished blade without fullers, straight guard, square type pommel and slightly contoured wooden grips. No nicks or dents to the cutting edge.Most of the original blue finish remains on the blade and metal fittings, with a very clear markings on the ricasso. Wooden grips are sound but refinished, no cracks or chips. Steel patina finish to the guard and pommel.  Painted surface on the two-piece wooden scabbard with a pointed metal chape, bound with two bands of twine. Thin stress cracks in the wooden surface on each side.
