Original period manufacture. A typical late war example featuring bright steel finished blade made without fullers, straight guard, square type pommel and slightly contoured wooden grips. The blade is quite clean for one of these, factory edge, with minimal surface corrosion.Clear markings on the ricasso. Original finish wooden grips, displaying typical service marring and denting and minor surface loss. Mix of blue and steel patina finish to the guard and pommel. The lock button works as it should.Original paint wood surface on the two-piece wooden scabbard, bound with two bands of twine, blue finished steel scabbard throat. There is a set of initials tapped into the scabbard surface, JR, done with looks to be the point of a nail. Light speckling of garage paint on one side. Typical cracking to the wooden body but no missing portions, most of the original paint is intact. Nice bayonet.
