Original era manufacture. Wooden handled, late warpattern Japanese Army NCO sword, with matching serial numbers, 213174, blade to scabbard throat. The polished steel blade measures 27.5 inches in length, made without fullers on either side. The blade is clean, no corrosion issues, or nicks in the cutting edge. Just some very light, scattered staining from age.Now to describe the obvious, it's been overpainted, in a horrible color-scheme of a red grip with a black painted scabbard. The good news is that the pommel, guard and grip fittings on most of this pattern sword were originally in the black, so just the grip color, and scabbard paint need to be worked on.Purchased from the family of Private Casamento of New York, who served in the 965th Ordnance, Heavy Weapons Maintenance Company during WWII. Of interest, Private Casamento served in both the European and Pacific theaters during WWII.
