Original era manufacture. An unusual variant with the serial number on the blade tang and pommel. According to Ray Labar's book, "Bayonets of Japan", bayonets with serial numbered tangs were in the first 221,000 production range made at the Tokyo Arsenal rather than Kokura. Other sources state this production ocurred between 1897 and 1923. Hooked guard, rounded bird head pommel, contoured wood grips with a bright finished blade. The blade shows a bright steel finish overall with an arsenal sharpened edge and sharp tip, scattered light age spotting. The wood grips show gouges in their surfaces near the screw escutcheons but decent enough. Blue steel scabbard with surface denting near the tip. Scarce variant with the serial number in two locations, perhaps a transition model.
