Original period manufacture.Aluminum grip with a decent amount of the original brown paint finish remaining on the surface, copper collar with numerous period markings. Simple black painted steel tsuba, with a lock mechanism on the top of the grip. The blade is clean, showing only some light scattered scratching to the surface, mostly along the cutting edge. Serial number 57970 stamped near the guard.The scabbard is for a Japanese Army officers sword, metal with an olive brown paint finish, displaying typical age and wear. The blade and scabbard fit well together, obviously a married set. The sword comes with a proper NCO pattern scabbard but it is rather battered and the blade will no longer fit the scabbard.
