Original period manufacture. A clean example of a sword pattern adopted in Meiji 32 (1899), in two styles, Ko, with a 32 3/4 inch blade, and the shorter Otsu model, with a 30 1/2 inch blade. Our example is the Otsu model, issued to the Japanese Army Military Police, Transport, and Infantry, Artillery and Engineers senior NCO's. The polished steel blade is very clean with no issues, and is serial numbered on the ricasso, 120635. There are arsenal markings stamped into the steel guard, with a steel rivet in the guard with portions of the leather finger loop remaining. Heavy steel backstrap which displays a deep checked design, matching the original finish wooden grip, no cracks or chips in the wood. .Dark steel patina finish to the scabbard body, displaying shallow surface denting along its length. Matching serial number to the blade stamped into the drag.
