Item #68752 : Original period manufacture. This set was recently purchased at local Phoenix Arizona area yard sale, our seller stated that the people he purchased it from said that the uniform and medals once were worn by a relative. Olive wool service coat, which I believe is the pattern 1907, full complement of brass Royal Artillery buttons throughout. White cotton pocket lining and interior trim, with a Broad Arrow, 9 WDL inkstamp, and remnants of a paper label. There is a name faintly written on the interior trim which looks to have had an attempt at rubbing it out, it appears to read Burrage. On the exterior of the coat are the following insignia, on each epaulette a brass plate, T RFA HIGHLAND, on each shoulder, a stylized red wool sword for the 56th London Division, on the lower right cuff four blue cotton chevrons indicating four years overseas with a white cotton star above. There are a few scattered spots of mothing, but overall the coat presents very well, with strong colors. The medals are the classic Pip, Squeak & Wilfred, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, all named to Driver A. (Alexander) Sim. The 1914-15 Star shows a service number 4163, while the BWM and VM have a 92896 service number, indicating the change in numbering for Territorial units that occurred in 1917. His number lands in the range for the 280th Artillery Brigade which served with the 56th Division. Lastly a postwar, diamond shaped Scottish Federation of Discharged Sailors & Soldiers badge, pinned to a small piece of tartan cloth. Doing a quick look on Ancestry his medal records can be found for these three medals, additionally, listings for two men having the name Alexander Sim with a Scottish background can be found, both emigrating to America in the 1920's.
