Item #69256 : Original period manufacture. Typical example of the Turkish Sultan's medal for service during the Crimean War, Sardinian flag at right center. Worn original ribbon, named on the edge to Serjeant Thomas Davies 13th Light Dragoons (regimental number 1412). This regiment formed part of the famed Light Brigade, and participated in the disastrous charge of that brigade during the Battle of Balaclava. Thomas Davies is not listed among the known chargers, as he was sent to Scutari Hospital several days prior to the charge. However, he would have been well acquainted with those men who did ride in the charge, and for his service he did receive the British Crimea Medal with 1 clasp Sebastopol, the Turkish Crimea and a Long Service Good Conduct Medal. He reenlisted in the Army and served for 2 years,11 months in Canada, receiving his discharge in 1873, dying shortly after.
