Item #69732 : Original period manufacture. The last of the national encampment badges for the Grand Army of the Republic, 1866-1949. The event was held, as the first encampment in 1866 was, back in the city of Indianapolis. Of the 16 surviving members of the GAR, only 6 were able to attend, with the youngest being 100 years old. This original example was produced by the Metal Arts Company of Rochester NY and resides in its original box of issue. As it was known that this would likely be the last reunion, extra examples of the 1949 reunion badge were produced in 1949 as a keepsake of the event.
