Item #69877 : Original period manufacture. A nice little grouping concerning the wartime and postwar life of John T. Larkin, late Lieutenant of the 57th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. Born in Georgetown Ohio in 1832, he went to Illinois and enlisted in the 57th for the duration of the war. Postwar, he moved west and settled in Golden Colorado where he remained for the rest of his days. Active in the GAR, he was an early member of the National Association of the Battle of Shiloh Survivors, his medal is included with the grouping. In addition to his medal is a 1906 Department of Colorado & Wyoming GAR Encampment ribbon, a fired .58 caliber lead Minie bullet, several original photos of the veteran, a 20 page, hand-typed account of the wartime service of the 57th Illinois, and a handwritten 3 page note giving details of Mr. Larkin's life. Also accompanying the grouping is a folio I created from Ancestry and other sources detailing his life and service record.
