US Indian War SAW Era, Bannerman Cadet Rifle, 45-70
Item #69561 : Original period manufacture. Cadet type 45-70 rifle assembled from parts by firms like Bannerman's back in the late 19th century. Serial number 494822, overall length is 48.75 inches with a 29.75 inch barrel. The rifle is very clean, mix of blue, steel patina on the metal components, nice finish to the stock. Narrow butt plate with traces of case hardening remaining on the 1884 dated breech block. Inspector stamp looks to be SWP, but I cannot make out the date. Nice ramrod, bore is clean, decent original leather single claw sling which I have not attempted to adjust, old leather gets cranky. Buffington rear sight, stacking swivel, ribbed trigger. I must confess the 1884 dated lock stumped me for a bit, but after digging found that they are a fig newton of the imagination. Flayderman states in his 9th Edition that the 1883 and 1884 dated locks are not the work of Springfield, rather built from surplus parts by a number of well known arms and military goods dealers (Bannerman) at the turn of the century. This is an antique rifle, please be certain that they are allowed in your town or state. US Sales Only.
