US Indian War Era, Arizona Territorial Bank Checks, Tucson 1880's, Lot of 3
Item #69481 : Original period manufacture. Three Territory of Arizona bank checks, one drawn on the First National Bank in Tucson in 1883, two drawn on the Pima County Bank, both in 1880 Each check measures 8.25 inches in length, they are clear, with the handwriting legible. The First National check is made out to J.N.Mason, who I believe owned a lumber yard. The population of Tucson in 1880 was around 7,000 souls, it also marked the year that the Railroad arrived in town. In December 1883 the infamous Bisbee Massacre took place when a band of six outlaws robbed a general store in Bisbee, killing five people including a pregnant woman. All of the outlaws were caught, five were hanged in Tombstone, the last one, given a life sentence, was dragged from his cell and hung from a telegraph pole.
