Original era manufacture. Heavy steel breastplate with a brass covering, as worn by cuirassier regiments during the 18th and 19th centuries. This example was part of a large collection recently purchased by SMA.It is quite heave, and very well made but for some reason it just doesn't strike me as being off the era. So, if I am wrong, then it is a good bargain. Lot's of old black rust on the interior and steel edges of the cuirass, with some scouring to the brass surfaces. It makes a terrific display piece and is properly curved to fit a torso. It measures 14 inches at the shoulders, 11.5 inches at the waist, and is 17 inches in height.
