Original era manufacture. This interesting helmet was a recent purchase out of an old collection. The collector tag which was on the helmet at the time of our purchase, identified it as an 1850 Swiss Dragoon helmet. Doing a search online I could not find any similar examples to compare it to, however it appears to not have been a parts assembled piece and is quite similar to the Raupenhelm worn by the regiments of the royal Bavarian army around that time period. Black fut comb with brass trim on the body and visors of the helmet, with a brass scaled chinstrap. Brass oval wappen with a German silver Greek cross at the front. On the left side is a silver-blue cockade, which represents the colors of several Swiss Canton's but also the Kingdom of Bavaria. Full black leather liner. The helmet is sound, no issues beyond normal age and wear, save for a small tear in the right corner of the rear visor.
