Original era manufacture. A French inspired shako of the mid to late 1840's, featuring a black wool covered cardboard body with a leather top, liner, visor and elaborate steel scale chinstrap secured with large crossed rifle buttons. On the front, is a large stamped steel shield with the motto Liberte Et Patrie, with a painted white-green metal  cockade and a red wool pompom. Sound condition for its age, no moth damage.
