Original era manufacture. An unusual sword, in that 19th century Swiss military items are seldom encountered, at least by Terri and I. Chrome steel blade measuring 31 inches in length with the makers logo of Alexander Coppel on the reverse ricasso, and the Zurich retailers name on the obverse. Triple etched blade with a presentation panel on the obverse side bearing a date of 1896. The blade runs straight and true, lightly sharpened along the forward half of the edge, and corrosion stained on each side of the tip. Floral basket hilt with the Swiss Cross at center, light corrosion staining. The fishskin wrapped grip is in good order with triple strand wire binding. The scabbard shows some denting along its length, wear to the drag from service use and the throat screw is missing. An unusual sword, worthy of some research.
