Austrian M1850 Cavalry Sword, C.Jurmann 1851
Item #62664 : Original era manufacture. A very well made sword as issued to the Austro-Hungarian cavalry units in the middle of the 19th century. Polished steel blade measuring 33.5 inches in length, running straight and true, showing a nice luster to the steel, with a few nail catchers towards the point. Stamped into the obverse ricasso is a date of 1851, and on the reverse, the name C.JURMANN. Heavy steel basket guard which is also marked with the same name and date. Black leather wrapped grip showing some minor surface loss near the backstrap on both sides, overall about 90% of the leather remains. Dark steel patina finish scabbard with two suspension rings and the Jurmann name and 1851 date near the throat. A very classic sword which quite likely saw service during the 1860 war in Italy, and later during the Bruderkrieg in 1866. Collector added leather sword knot.
