Item #68856 : Original period manufacture. A fine quality, multi-piece set identified to Major William Malcolm Fleming-Hamilton, 1869-1931, who served with the Highland Light Infantry, during the Boer War, and four years of WWI. All of the items were purchased as a lot in the same Edinburgh Scotland auction a few months ago. The lot includes the following, officers quality dress shako & cords, with a printed London tailor shop label in the black silk crown. Officers scarlet wool highland doublet, in the rank of Major, with a London tailors label in the collar, showing the then Captain W.M. Hamilton H.L.I. name, tartan "trews" also with a label in the waistband, faded from wear, but the name Hamilton can still be seen. White buff leather officers sword baldric with elaborate HLI officers quality shoulder belt plate, gold brocade dress belt with HLI officers quality plate, tartan shoulder cloak with a circular HLI brooch, red silk officers sash, with 37 photos provided here to tell the tale. The quality is excellent, no mothing to be seen to the shako, doublet or trews, some minor wear on the backside of the red silk sash, leather instep straps on the cuffs of the trews. The shako is missing it's pompom, the buckle has been altered by the previous collector for display, and the trews have some soiling to the fabric, not stained, just in need of a cleaning, overall a bright, clean set, which looks magnificent on a manniquin. Born in 1869, he served during the Boer War during the final years of Queen Victoria's reign, earning the clasps for Modder River, Paardeberg, Wittebergen and possibly one other for his Queen's SA medal.
