Item #68303 : Original era manufacture. A very clean example of the US M1840 enlisted Light Artillery Saber. Manufactured by Ames Sword Company in 1864, with inspectors initials C.E.W. on the ricasso and pommel, with the letter C being quite faint. Beautiful 32 inch polished steel blade in original polish, with only a few scattered spots of surface staining. Unsharpened edge, original leather bumper at the base of the blade. Pleasing mellow patina to the single branch guard. Original leather wrapped grip bound with twisted brass wire. There are some scattered areas of surface scuffing to the leather surface, however much of the original luster remains. Dent free steel scabbard with a dark patina finish, no corrosion to report, just age darkened steel. Inspector initials of O.D.H. on the drag. The blade draws easily from the scabbard. Overall an exceptional example of the 1840 Artillery Sword.
