Item #67527 : Original period manufacture. A very solid set consisting of the enlisted dress hat, coat & trousers, his Good Conduct Medal (No. 25675), Sharpshooter Badge, Victory Medal with 3 clasps, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne and Defense Sector and assorted small veteran association badges. Both the coat and trousers bear the name of M.K.NELSON, stenciled into the shoulder lining and waistband. On the coat are a pair of Sergeant chevrons, and on the left sleeve a 2nd Division SSI, Honorable Discharge stripe, and two Overseas stripes. There is some mothing on the inside top rear edge of the collar, no other moth issues noted on the coat. Missing one coat button. There are a few small moth bites on the trousers but nothing really important. Waistband is 28 inches, the inseam is also 28 inches, the coat size about a 38. Original ribbon on the medals with the planchet of the Victory Medal reversed for some reason. Issue quality enlisted dress hat which was missing it's EGA at the time of our purchase, we added a proper one to complete. Mothing to the top of the hat as shown, the hat is not crushed or broken. The leather garrison belt we added for display and is included in the price. Ancestry has 23 listings in the USMC Muster Rolls 1798-1958 for Martin K. Nelson, beginning in June 1917 and ending in July 1919. In August 1918, in the rank of Sergeant, he was attached to HQ Company, 6th Marines, and in October 1918 73rd MG Co. 6th Marines. The 6th Marines were awarded the Croix de Guerre with two palms and gilt star. Purchased by a friend of ours from a family member of Sergeant Nelson.
