US WWI French Made Army Officer Uniform Grouping, Identified
Item #60643 : Original era manufacture. A very nice set consisting of a French made coat, breeches, piped overseas hat, Sam Browne belt and a US made tall style campaign hat. Each piece except for the belt, is named to Major J.A. Rockwell. Olive color, ribbed wool coat, breeches and overseas cap, with the coat and breeches each displaying a French tailor's label, French marked US buttons throughout. The collar displays bronze color, cloth US & Medical emblems with gold wire Major oak leaves on each shoulder, on the lower left cuff is a single overseas stripe. The matching material cap displays leather sweatband with an embroidered name tag sewn into the lining, maroon piping, now faded to a pale red. Issue quality campaign hat with a tall crown, officers quality cap cords and a pliable leather chinstrap. Named in ink on the interior to Maj. Rockwell. Unmarked, pliable brown leather Sam Browne belt with an oiled finish, rounded brass two-prong buckle, slide for a .45 automatic and leather suspension for a sword. The moth issues to report consist of some surface crazing on the overseas cap, two moth nips on the seat of the breeches, light mothing to the bottom of the upper right, and lower left pockets and two on the rear of the right shoulder. Coat is a size 40 regular. Good research potential.
