Original era manufacture. Early contract of 10,000 delivered to the US Government in 1820-22. This example is complete with its original sheet steel scabbard which retains both carrying rings but is missing one throat screw. 32.5 inch curved steel blade which was lightly sharpened years ago for service use. Well marked on the obverse ricasso US P ET N.Starr. The original leather bumper is present at the base of the blade. Nearly all of the original leather grip covering remain, with an even steel patina to the guard and pommel. Black finished steel scabbard with both suspension rings present, minor denting to the surface. No doubt many of these swords saw service during the Civil War, particularly with the Southern states.
