Original era manufacture. A very complete example of a circa 1825 officers Chapeau de Bras, as worn by Assistant Surgeon, H. D. Paine, of the Washington Guards. Black wool felt bicorne hat with a large black silk cockade on one side with a four strand, woven silver wire band decorated with a large silver ball type button. Wide tan moroccan leather sweatband with the name H.D. Paine written on one side, and a white silk lining. On the opposite side of the hat are remnants of an additional silk cockade done in a star pattern. Large white cock feather plume, fits into a felt socket at the top of the hat. The original cardboard storage box has a large paper label on the lid stating H.D.Paine, Asst. Surgeon. Wash. Guards.
