Original era manufacture. Sheet steel drum canteen with three mounting points for a shoulder strap, flat on one side, domed on the other. Original light blue paint finish to the body, and on one side, faintly stenciled in gold, the letters KLI, Keene (New Hampshire) Light Infantry. The paint shows fading and wear, but most of it remains. The body of the canteen is quite sound, not rusted through, just old storage wear. There is an interesting article online, regarding the discovery of a cache of old Militia equipment found in an old building in 1890. The horde included similar canteens with the KLI stenciling. The body measures 4.75 x 1.75 inches. The old sales tag attached to one of the upper sling loops states, "Civil War Round Ca" on on the reverse, a $3 price.
