Original period manufacture. Blue wool cloth covered cork helmet with the interesting quick release mechanism on the spike/plume base. The body of the helmet is basically sound, with wear to the edge binding on the front and rear visors.Nice quality stamped brass eagle with a white metal 3 on the shield, infantry side buttons and what appears to be an original adjustable chinstrap. The leather sweatband does show wear with a torn section in the back, with a clear Pettibone label on one side. Great old helmet worthy of restoration. As memory serves, this is the first helmet we have ever offered with the quick release plume holder.
