Original era manufacture. Introduced in 1903 and discontinued in 1909. The initial order of 1700 badges were produced by Rock Island Arsenal who marked them on the reverse to individual Coastal Artillery companies. Our example is marked 6 Co. Coast. Art. No.40 on the reverse of the suspension bar. The name, Sgt. Gammon, is nicely engraved on the obverse of same. Mr William K Emerson US Army retired, identifies company number 6 as serving at Fortress Monroe in Virginia. Excellent condition, from an old local collection.
