Original period manufacture. This attractive distinctive unit insignia for the 6th Coastal Artillery was adopted in 1924, with this particular example representing an early production piece made by the venerable California firm of Irvine & Lachens of San Francisco. It is maker marked on the reverse with their name and features an early drop-in style catch. The 6th Coastal Artillery was stationed at Fort Winfield Scott California until deactivated in October 1944.
