Item #68384 : Original period manufacture. LTC John Boynton Philip Clayton Hill 1879-1941. Coat was made for the officer in 1918, as marked on the tailors tag with his name and (then) Major rank, modified postwar to fit the new open collar regulations. Original insignia to include the 61st Cavalry Division ssi on the left shoulder, run of 9 ribbons sewn to the upper left area of the chest, to include the Distinguished Service Medal, Order of the Cincinatti, Mexican Border Service, WWI Victory, Legion d'Honneur, Croix de Guerre and three others, Cavalry crossed saber insignia. sterling pinback LTC oakleaves. In addition to his lengthy military service, Colonel Hill also served his country as one of Maryland's Representatives to Congress 1921-1927. Comes with a portfolio of online printed documentation and a period copy of a press release photo showing Colonel Hill receiving the DSM from Secretary of War Weeks, while General Pershing and Colonel Hill's family look on. Clean condition, no moth issues. Coat comes with a pair of period tan corduroy breeches.
