Original era manufacture. US Navy M1852 Officers Sword, German manufacture, named to J.BRYAN on the blade. Engraved on the scabbard throat is "From Shipmates N.A.S. San Diego, Calif.". The Chromed steel blade measures 30 inches in length, with an etched design on both sides of the blade, including the name of the recipient. Running straight and true with no issues. Germany, faintly stamped onto the top of the spine. Mellow brass patina to the guard and pommel, with the eagle looking to it's left (changed in 1941 to the right) pommel cap. Fish skin covered grip, bound with triple strand wire. Steel bodied, leather covered scabbard with brass fittings. Considerable wear to the scabbard leather, with the stitching opening up and splitting. Ancestry shows numerous listings for a J. Bryan in the US Navy & Marine Corps Registries, for the years 1927-1940. His rank was Carpenter and later, Chief Carpenter.
