Original era manufacture. Dollar Steamship Lines, SS President Hoover was completed in 1938, and provided Trans-Pacific service between the United States and the Far East. Ordered by the US Government to proceed to Shanghai from Hong Kong, to rescue US nationals. On 30 August 1937 while moored in the Yangtze River awaiting customs clearance, she was mistaken for the Japanese troopship Asama Maru and bombed by Chinese National Air Force planes. She suffered the loss of one killed and several wounded, and was forced to abandon her rescue mission. Later the same year on another voyage to Manila, she ran aground in a gale off the southeast coast of Taiwan. All passengers and crew were rescued, however the ship was a total loss. Spelter ship with a brass plate stating ACHIEVEMENT. Dark silver patina finish, measures 8.5 inches in length.
