Original period manufacture. A nice example of the merchandising efforts by the famous militaria surplus firm of Francis Bannerman & Sons of New York. Regarded as one of the founders of the army surplus/militaria collectors hobby here in the USA. So much surplus inventory was on hand at Bannerman's back in the 1920's & 30's, they devised ingenious methods to offer the items to the public. An example of one of those efforts was an assortment of wooden wall boards, decorated with 19th century American military insignia. Here we have one such board, a shield shaped design, displaying in the four corners an assortment of enlisted side buttons for the 1881 helmet; QMC, Cavalry, Medical and Engineers. At center we have a USMC shako/helmet plate, pattern of 1875, with a German silver EGA at center. Board measures 9 x 9.25 inches with a small surface chip at the bottom point. Worth the price of the EGA alone.
