Original era manufacture. An interesting, late 19th, early 20th Century, US militia or national guard ceremonial helmet, in the style of a Lancer Tschapka.Molded wool felt crown, with a bound edge visor similar towhat you will see on an Indian Wars era kepi.Stamped brass, multi-rayed backing plate with a brass American eagle helmet plate. Silver colored linked chinstrap, withmatching color side buttons decorated with crossed sabers. There is a wide, 19th century style Moroccan leather sweatband, but the remainder of the helmet interior is unlined.Very tall wool-felt mortar board with a red painted leather top, with a black cloth bound edge and a removable gray horsehair plume. The Tschapka needs some restoration in the form of tightening up the stitching on the visor, and the mortarboard is fairly loose, but regardless,it remains a very distinctive looking piece of headgear.
