Original period manufacture. Aluminum, 30 mm disc, stamped with the following. James M. Trute, Sgt.1st. Cl. Hospital Corps USA. Born in 1858, he died in 1922 and is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Los Angeles. His first enlistment was at age 23 in 1882 signing up with the 3rd Cavalry. He continued in the army until his final enlistment at Fort Logan Colorado in 1906, age 48 as a Hospital Steward. During the intervening years he saw service with the 16th Infantry at Fort Davis Texas, Fort Bayard NM 1887-88 16th Inf'y transferring to a Hospital Corps, December 1888 Fort McDowell and Fort Whipple Arizona Territory as a Hospital Steward, Watervliet NY, Hospital Steward Manila PI as a Hospital Steward. In 1892 he married Mary Donnely in Yavapai County AT. Excellent research potential.
