Original era manufacture. Contracted by the US Army in 1825 to James Baker of Philadelphia for 2000 flasks. Interestingly these are regarded as not having been manufactured in America, as the Army acknowledges the receipt of 2000 of such flasks on board the ship Montezuma, inbound from Liverpool England. Traces of the original lettering "Public Property" may be seen below the bugle on one side. These markings were often removed after the flasks found their way into private hands. The seams are sound, typical minor marring and denting to the surface.
