Original era manufacture. A bright finished 1855 pattern socket bayonet (fits my '55 Springfield perfectly), with no issues to the finish, clear U.S. proof on the base of the 18 inch blade. A previous owner signed onto the nation-wide "Operation Identification" in the late 1970's, and added their drivers license number to the socket. Early post-war scabbard, produced perhaps to accompany the new 1866-1868 Allin Conversion breech loading Springfields. The scabbard measures 19 inches in length, missing the top of the belt loop, the leather body and seam stitching are sound. See page 166, figure S75, American Socket Bayonets & Scabbards by Robert M. Reilly for a similar example and description.
