Item #69880 : Original period manufacture. A very clean example of the classic government issue M1860 cavalry sword. Likely of Ames manufacture, no visible makers name on the reverse ricasso, the Ames logo being notoriously faint. Faint (1)861 date on the obverse ricasso. The polished steel blade measures 34.5 inches in length, runs straight and true, no nicks in the cutting edge, with a brightish surface luster and scattered areas of age toning and corrosion staining. Replaced leather bumper at the base of the blade. Mellow brass patina three branch guard with very minor distortions to the outermost branch. Leather wrapped grip bound with single strand twisted brass wire. The sword is tight, no rattles. Brightish steel patina finish to the scabbard, both scabbard rings are present as is the throat guide. Scattered service denting to the surface, with light surface corrosion and staining. Original Indian War era leather hanger with brass fittings.
